Our Work Health & Safety Policies

Our Work Health & Safety system aims to facilitate:
- Compliance with Work Health and Safety Acts and Regulations
- A proactive approach to Work Health & Safety through the identification, assessment and control of risks.
- The provision of information, instruction, training and supervision to enable the safety of our employees and candidates, encouraging genuine participation and shared ownership for health and safety.
- Working with our clients to provide and maintain a safe and healthy workplace for our consultants and candidates.
- Safe systems of work.
- Continual improvement of the management system.
This is in line with our policies regarding:
- Occupational Rehabilitation and Return to Work
- Drugs and Alcohol
- EEO, Bullying and Harassment
- Risk and Incident Management
Prior to a placement occurring, HOBAN conducts a workplace inspection to ensure the client is providing our temporary employee with a safe working environment
Site Specific Induction
Site specific inductions are conducted by the client on assignment commencement.
HOBAN facilitates safety discussions or tool box talks on job sites to promote safety culture or focus on particular safety issues.
Our Approach to Employee Safety
The health and safety of our temporary employees is paramount.
Throughout our recruitment and onboarding processes and during the placement, we reiterate the importance of safety to our employees to ensure they understand our procedures and approach to working safely. All employees are required to undertake safety training prior to their placement on a client site.
Assessments and Training:
When registering with HOBAN, we will verify your skills and experience in line with vacancy requirements. This will involve a discussion with a HOBAN consultant and may also involve verification of your skills through the application of job specific skills assessments and work simulations.
- Employment Agreement
At registration we provide an on-hire Employment Agreement, which includes information regarding Work Health and Safety. The agreement specifies the responsibilities of both the employer and the temporary employee; candidates must read and sign to confirm their understanding and agreement to our policies.
- Safety Questionnaire
During registration applicants complete a pre-employment health questionnaire; this is specific to the proposed job role and duties which will be performed if their application is successful.
All pre-existing conditions or injuries which could be affected by the nature of the proposed employment must be disclosed to determine any matters that may inhibit performance and safety.
- Pre-employment Medical
Some positions require a pre-employment medical. Pre-employment medicals assess specific job related requirements. Your consultant will advise you if this is required for any role.
- Manual Handling Assessment
For positions where lifting or manual handling is required, your ability to complete these tasks safely will be assessed. This assessment requires lifting and moving of boxes of varying weights according to given criteria.
Grip strength may also be assessed if required for certain positions.
- Drug and Alcohol Testing
HOBAN conducts drug and alcohol assessments at registration for assignments at a number of client sites. This is usually a requirement where equipment or machinery is operated to ensure your own safety and that of others.
Some client sites conduct random testing. HOBAN has a zero tolerance policy.
- Online Safety Training and Assessment
As part of our registration and induction procedure, candidates complete online training in Work Health Safety and Equal Employment Opportunity – EEO. This is administered via Workpro.
There are a number of different modules which relate to different position types and you will be advised which ones you need to complete. An assessment takes place at the end of each module.
- Induction Handbook
The induction handbook provides further details about safety, our employment policies and a copy of the employment agreement. It also includes details regarding:
- Responsibilities on assignment
- Payroll and timesheet requirements
- Summary of our EEO and OH&S Policies
It can be accessed online at:
