APS5/6 Project Officer

We are seeking experienced APS5 and APS6 Project Officers to join a large federal government agency. These positions play a vital role in delivering reporting, insights, and continuous improvement across national programs and services.
Both roles support projects that contribute to strategic outcomes and improvements in service delivery:
The APS5 Project Officer works under limited supervision to deliver moderately complex to complex work, focusing on project support, analysis, and reporting.
The APS6 Project Officer works under limited direction to lead and support more complex projects, requiring strong project management skills, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to provide advice and coordinate delivery at a higher level.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in project management and coordination activities, including monitoring progress against project plans.
Develop and manage project plans and schedules in line with the agency's frameworks.
Undertake research, data analysis, and contribute to the preparation of reports.
Provide advice, procedural guidance, and technical expertise in specific areas of project work.
Draft a range of written materials including business cases, briefs, and corporate documentation.
Monitor budgets, review expenditure, and support procurement and contract management.
Identify and manage project risks, issues, and benefits.
Contribute to project quality management to ensure deliverables are fit for purpose.
Work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
Skills and Attributes
APS5 Project Officer
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Analytical ability to explain complex issues clearly.
Experience presenting and reporting on key metrics.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Well-developed Microsoft 365 skills.
APS6 Project Officer (in addition to APS5 requirements)
Strong knowledge of Agile project management methodology.
Ability to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
Experience developing and maintaining project artefacts.
Advanced stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Ability to apply judgement and make evidence-informed decisions.
Desirable Criteria (both levels)
Experience in government administration, including drafting, editing, and coordinating documents.
At least 2 years' experience in project management, government, or the social services sector.
