EL2 level Senior Technical Accountant

HOBAN Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced and highly capable EL2 level Senior Technical Accountant to support a prominent Federal Government agency based in DEAKIN / Canberra.
This is a critical role that provides technical accounting leadership, supports year-end financial processes, and liaises with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) on complex audit matters.
About the Role:
As a Senior Technical Accountant, you will:
- Develop technical accounting position papers in line with Australian Accounting Standards and Commonwealth guidelines.
- Provide expert accounting advice and support on policy development and financial reporting.
- Lead responses and negotiating strategies related to ANAO audit topics.
- Engage directly with external auditors to address complex technical matters.
- Contribute to strategic planning for Financial Statement and Year-End Audit preparation.
- Support ad-hoc technical accounting and policy projects as needed.

About You:
We're looking for a candidate with:
- At least 10 years' senior-level experience in accounting or auditing, preferably within government.
- Degree qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or Auditing.
- Full professional membership with CPA Australia or CA ANZ.
- Expertise in Australian Accounting Standards and Commonwealth financial frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with external auditors, especially the ANAO.
- Strong technical writing and policy development skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and provide strategic financial advice.
