We are seeking a Research and Liaison Officer to join a Japanese organization in Sydney CBD. This role offers an excellent career path.
The position involves conducting research on issues related to local governments in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, and working closely with Japanese colleagues.
We are looking for candidates with native-level English and Japanese proficiency equivalent to JLPT N1 or N2. Returnees from the JET Program are highly regarded.
Ideal for someone who has native English language ability with some Japanese language skill. If you are JET program returnee, it is highly regarded.
Position: Research & Liaison Officer
1. Duties Under the instruction of managers, you will:
· Arrange appointments with government agencies in Australia and New Zealand, and accompany delegations (including sister city programs, multicultural initiatives, and Japanese delegations).
· Proofread English documents prepared by Japanese staff.
· Conduct research on administrative systems and operations in Australia and New Zealand.
· Provide interpretation and translation (EN-JP, JP-EN) when required during research or visits.
· Contribute to smooth operations in a Japanese-language work environment.
· Carry out other office administration as required.
2. Working Hours
· Mon-Thu: 9:30 - 18:15
· Fri: 9:30 - 17:30
· Flexible start time: up to 1 hour earlier/later
3. Required Skills
· Ability to communicate effectively in a Japanese-language workplace
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
· Research skills (literature review, web research, interviews, fieldwork)
· High-level business writing skills in English and strong Japanese proficiency
· Ability to work effectively as part of a team
4. Preferred Background (Not mandatory)
· Experience working in government/public sector, universities, or research institutions
· JET program alumni highly regarded
· Experience writing essays/papers in Japanese (published work preferred, to be submitted if available)
· Bachelor's degree
5. Other Conditions
· Must be able to travel for work, including overnight stays
