About the Role
A federal government agency is seeking a skilled and motivated APS6 Network Engineer to join their ICT Services Branch. This is a key position supporting the design, deployment, and management of enterprise-wide network infrastructure to ensure secure and efficient ICT operations.
Working within the Technical Services Division, the Network Engineer will manage day-to-day technical operations, oversee a small team of network administrators, and act as a subject matter expert for networking solutions. The role also contributes to strategic planning and supports ongoing enhancements to the agency's digital environment, including cloud-based and zero trust access networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the daily operations of a small team of network administrators
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and support of enterprise-wide ICT network solutions
- Manage WAN/LAN infrastructure using best-practice methodologies and industry certifications
- Oversee and implement network security protocols across physical, wireless, and cloud-based environments
- Resolve complex network and application issues, ensuring minimal disruption to service delivery
- Support network testing, patching, quality control, and infrastructure upgrades
- Participate in and support change management activities and ITIL-aligned processes
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for network technologies, guiding internal stakeholders and team members
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive technical documentation
Key Skills & Attributes
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Network Engineer, Administrator, or equivalent role
- Proven experience managing ICT infrastructure at an enterprise level
- Strong understanding of ITIL practices and process management
- Proficiency in supporting network solutions within cloud-based environments such as AWS and Azure
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently under limited supervision
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Strong leadership capabilities with experience guiding technical teams
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Fortinet NSE 4 or higher certification and hands-on experience in Fortinet environments
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or similar industry certification
- Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
- Familiarity with zero trust access solutions including Zscaler and Cloudflare
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be an Australian Citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
