About the Role
Our client, a high-profile Federal Government Agency, is seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Media Officer to join their Strategic Communications Division. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing external media relationships, preparing high-quality media content, and providing strategic advice on media issues and risks.
This role requires a seasoned communicator who can confidently liaise with journalists, senior executives, and government stakeholders, while producing impactful media releases, talking points, and responses to complex media enquiries.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic media campaigns to promote the Agency's priorities
- Produce high-quality media materials including releases, briefs, and key messaging
- Engage with internal experts to create compelling media packages across platforms
- Monitor media activity and provide risk assessments on emerging issues
- Respond to media enquiries under tight deadlines, including participating in an on-call roster
- Contribute to agency-wide communications strategies and digital media activities
- Support executive-level briefings and ministerial communications
- Track media performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement
About You - Key Skills & Attributes
- Strong understanding of media operations and public affairs in a government context
- Proven ability to develop and manage strategic communications plans
- Excellent writing and editing skills for diverse formats and audiences
- Confident stakeholder engagement skills, including negotiation and risk management
- Ability to work independently under pressure with strong attention to detail
- Experience using media monitoring tools and content management systems
Desirable Skills
- Relevant qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field
- Knowledge of Australian Government communication protocols and media landscape
Mandatory Requirements
- Australian Citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
- Willingness to participate in an after-hours media roster
- Working with Children Check and Pre-Engagement Screening may be required
