About the Role
A State Government Agency is seeking a Senior Privacy Officer to provide expert advice and leadership in the management of privacy risks, compliance obligations, and impact assessments across ICT and business projects. Sitting within a specialist privacy team, this role supports strategic governance and the protection of personal information across corporate, regional, and operational environments.
This is a dynamic role suited to a privacy professional with strong legislative knowledge, analytical capability, and experience advising senior stakeholders. You'll contribute to organisational privacy strategies, undertake investigations, and play a key role in supporting ethical and compliant use of information and technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or contribute to the delivery of complex Privacy Impact Assessments
- Provide high-level advice to business units and project teams on privacy risks, controls, and mitigation strategies
- Investigate and manage privacy complaints and data breach incidents in line with statutory obligations
- Prepare written reports, findings, and recommendations for internal stakeholders and affected parties
- Support the review of policies, procedures, and initiatives to ensure alignment with privacy legislation
- Work collaboratively with ICT, legal, compliance and governance areas on cross-functional initiatives
- Maintain accurate records and support the agency's reporting and compliance frameworks
About You - Key Skills & Capabilities
- Extensive working knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth privacy legislation Demonstrated experience conducting PIAs, particularly for ICT-enabled initiatives
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including written reports and briefings
- Proven ability to analyse complex issues and recommend practical, compliant solutions
- Experience managing privacy complaints, breaches, and investigations
- Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to work independently within a small team
- Capacity to manage competing deadlines and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure
Desirable
- Familiarity with upcoming changes to Queensland privacy legislation
- Experience in a regulatory, compliance or statutory reporting environment
- Qualifications in privacy, law, governance, or information security
Mandatory Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience in privacy risk management, investigations, and advisory services
- Full working rights
- Pre-employment checks including criminal history screening may be required
