Our client, a Federal Government agency, is seeking an Assistant Director to lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of training packages that build workforce capability and improve outcomes for First Nations people with disability.

About the Role:
Reporting to a Director, the Assistant Director - Training Package Design will be responsible for leading end-to-end training package design, from learning objectives and content structure through to delivery and evaluation. The role will embed cultural safety into all learning experiences and contribute to workforce development strategies. This position will work closely with First Nations stakeholders, internal teams, and external providers to ensure training programs are culturally relevant, engaging, and strategically aligned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end design of training packages, including objectives, content, delivery methods, and evaluation
- Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to create engaging learning experiences
- Co-design training materials in partnership with First Nations stakeholders
- Develop learning resources including facilitator guides, participant materials, eLearning, and induction content
- Collaborate with HR, L&D, and operational teams to align training initiatives with workforce needs
- Trial, evaluate, and refine training content to ensure continuous improvement
- Promote staff wellbeing through training design that incorporates trauma-informed and culturally safe practices
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate external training providers
- Monitor and report on training effectiveness to senior leadership
- Represent the agency at relevant forums to advocate for workforce development
- Other duties as required
Mandatory Requirements:
- Australian citizenship is required to be considered
- Demonstrated expertise in instructional design, adult learning, and training development
- Strong understanding of cultural safety and First Nations perspectives
- Proven ability to lead complex projects and manage multiple stakeholders
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and strategic thinking skills
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in education, training, HR, or related field (Certificate IV in Training and Assessment highly desirable)
