Are you an experienced safety professional with expertise in workplace health and safety, assurance oversight, and incident management? A state government agency in Queensland is seeking an AO8 Manager - WHS and Safety Lead to drive safe outcomes across a large scale infrastructure program.

- Rate: $95.48 p/h + Superannuation
About the Role:
Reporting to the Delivery and Implementation Director, the Manager (WHS and Safety Lead) will provide strategic and operational leadership of safety functions across a complex infrastructure program. The role combines policy, governance, and assurance responsibilities with a visible presence in the field, ensuring safety best practice is embedded throughout project delivery. The position will manage up to three direct reports, engage with contractors and stakeholders at all levels, and oversee safety performance to deliver strong and sustainable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of WHS Advisors, building capability and fostering a strong safety culture.
- Embed WHS and safety processes into program planning, governance, and assurance frameworks.
- Provide visible leadership onsite through inspections, safety walks, and workforce engagement.
- Oversee contractor safety assurance activities, verifying compliance with agency requirements.
- Lead risk assessments, incident investigations, corrective actions, and lessons learned processes.
- Deliver high-quality assurance reporting, preparing and presenting updates for leadership forums.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, including the development of policies, frameworks, and systems for large infrastructure programs.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and industry partners.
- Undertake additional duties as directed in support of safe and effective program delivery.

Mandatory Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety, Business, or a related discipline.
- Comprehensive knowledge of WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and AS/ISO standards.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in WHS on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proven ability in contractor oversight, safety governance, and assurance reporting.
- High level written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems.
- Full Australian working rights.
- Own car and licence and willingness to travel to sites as required
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience engaging with regulators.
- Internal Auditor qualification.
- ICAM Lead Investigator accreditation.
