Are you an experienced civil engineer ready to lead high-impact infrastructure programs? A Queensland State Government agency is seeking a PO5 equivalent Principal Engineer (Civil) to oversee the delivery of critical road maintenance, rehabilitation, and safety projects across the South Coast region.

About the Role:
This is a strategic leadership role within the Preservation & Maintenance team, responsible for managing essential infrastructure works and providing expert technical guidance. You will ensure successful project delivery through all phases; design, procurement, construction, and stakeholder engagement, while maintaining safety, quality, and budget integrity. The role also supports contract administration and engineering oversight to enhance and protect public assets across the regional road network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of maintenance, rehabilitation, and safety projects
- Act as Representative of the Principal during contract delivery phases
- Provide engineering advice to ensure quality, value for money, and best practice across planning, design, and construction
- Lead tender processes, contract assessments, and project award phases
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards
- Supervise and mentor engineering and technical staff, including RPEQ and graduate engineers
- Maintain project documentation, progress reporting, and cost forecasting
- Coordinate project activities to minimise network disruption and optimise delivery
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and manage risks proactively
- Attend to public and stakeholder technical enquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Other duties as required
Mandatory Requirements:
- Four-year, Washington Accord-accredited Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia
- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)
- Current Class C Driver's Licence
- Construction Industry Induction (White Card)
- Provision of own suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ability to pass a Criminal History Check
