About the Role:
As an APS6 Risk Advisor, you will play a key role in strengthening operational and strategic risk capabilities across the agency's service delivery division. This position works closely with internal teams to facilitate risk reviews, develop risk treatment plans, and embed risk awareness into projects and day-to-day activities. You will also contribute to risk reporting, training, and system administration for the Integrated Risk Management System (IRMS). Working under limited direction, the role requires sound judgement, initiative, and a deep understanding of risk principles within a public sector context. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence agency-wide risk culture and support critical national programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate risk workshops and discussions with operational teams and project leads
- Apply the Risk Management Framework to identify and manage operational and project risks
- Analyse trends in risk mitigation and provide insights for decision-making
- Support the development and delivery of risk training and awareness initiatives
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal assurance and governance teams
- Assist in compiling risk reports for senior stakeholders
- Provide administrative support for the agency's Integrated Risk Management System (IRMS)
- Support continuous improvement of risk-related policies, templates, and tools
- Other duties as required
Mandatory Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in enterprise or operational risk management in a government or large organisational context
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with an ability to engage stakeholders across all levels
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting risk data and developing insights
- Experience with risk systems and frameworks (e.g., ISO 31000)
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive outcomes
- Must be an Australian citizen to be considered
- Ability to pass a national Criminal History Check
Desirable:
- Qualifications in risk management, governance, business, or a related discipline
- Familiarity with audit, compliance, or incident management frameworks
