A Queensland State Government agency is seeking a qualified and proactive Cultural Heritage Officer to join its South Coast Environmental & Cultural Heritage team. This opportunity offers meaningful, on-site in the delivery of road infrastructure projects that respect and protect cultural values.

- Rate: PO3 Equivalent + Superannuation
About the Role
Based in the fast-growing South Coast Region, you will work within a supportive technical services team providing specialist cultural heritage advice. You'll lead and contribute to cultural heritage planning, negotiation, and compliance activities that support major infrastructure delivery. Your work will help ensure that projects meet legal obligations while honouring the cultural and historical significance of the land.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs) for infrastructure projects
- Conduct site investigations, impact assessments, and cultural heritage audits
- Provide expert advice on legislative and policy requirements to ensure compliance
- Liaise and negotiate respectfully with Registered Aboriginal Parties and other stakeholders
- Prepare clear and concise reports documenting cultural heritage assessments and outcomes
- Oversee and manage cultural heritage consultancies including tender processes and deliverables
- Deliver internal training and awareness on cultural heritage legislation and processes
- Support day-to-day project and advisory work under the guidance of the team leader
About You - Key Skills & Capabilities
- Strong understanding of Queensland's cultural heritage legislation, policy, and protocols
- Practical experience working with Traditional Owners and managing CHMPs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and negotiation
- Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Sound judgement, initiative, and cultural sensitivity when navigating complex heritage issues
- Organised, adaptable, and committed to project timelines and stakeholder engagement
Mandatory Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Heritage Management, Conservation, Archaeology, Anthropology, or similar
- Current Class C driver's licence
- Construction White Card (or ability to obtain prior to commencement)
- Ability to undergo pre-employment screening including a criminal history check
